Data released this week shows that recycling rates have reduced for 11 million homes. According to the BBC article…
Half of local authorities recycled a lower proportion of household waste in 2016-17 than in 2011-12.
Experts warn the UK is likely to miss its target of recycling 50% of household rubbish by 2020.
With confusing schemes varying by individual councils and consumer concern that a high volume of items put out for recycling actually end up in landfill its not surprising that recycling rates have plateaued.
Hopefully this just a blip on the great crusade to reduce landfill waste. Please continue to do your bit and we hope our products make sorting items a little easier.
